Nigerian comedian Aderombi Adedayo Martins, known as DeeOne, is now one of the entertainers running for office in the upcoming elections.

The former BBNaija contestant is the ‘Because Of Our Tomorrow’ (BOOT) Party candidate for Ibeju-Lekki Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly election.

Fatai Mojeed (APC) currently represents Ibeju-Lekki Constituency I. He is also the Deputy Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

The BOOT party, which DeeOne is running under, got its official recognition from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on 25 September 2019. This happened after a federal court ruled against its deregistration.

In May, the BOOT party announced its ticket prices. Sunny Adenuga, the party’s National President, said candidates who want to run for the State House of Assembly must pay N100,000 for the Expression of Interest form and N250,000 for the party’s ‘Trust Before Ticket’ fee.

DeeOne is joining other entertainers like Doris Ogala, Emeka Ike, and actress Esther Okereke, who have also secured tickets from their political parties.

DeeOne's Announcement

The comedian shared his success in the primaries through an Instagram post.

“I want to thank my party, BOOT party, for the confidence in voting for me to emerge the winner of the primaries election for Ibeju Lekki constituency 1.

“To the Ibeju Lekki constituency 1, come 2027 by the grace of God, I will be your worker and not your boss,” he wrote.

He also mentioned that the party has chosen the ruling party’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as its presidential candidate.

Since this announcement, reactions from his Instagram followers have been mixed regarding his candidacy.

Background on DeeOne

DeeOne became well-known after he participated in the third season of Big Brother Naija in 2018.

This season was called ‘Double Wahala’. Some of the housemates from that season include the late Rico Swavey and Anto Lecky, who is currently an appointee of the Edo State government.

After BBNaija, he moved to full-time stand-up comedy, performing at major events and comedy shows all over Nigeria.
