The Minister of Defence, Major General Bashir Salihi Magashi (rtd), has called on Nigerian innovators to create local technology solutions to tackle the country's security problems. He made this statement at the start of the 2023 Defence Innovation and Technology Exhibition and Conference (DITEC) in Abuja.
Magashi stressed that local solutions are key to solving security challenges. He said the government is ready to support innovators in the tech field. He pointed out that the current security situation needs teamwork between the military and private companies to boost innovation that can strengthen national security.
The minister mentioned that the Defence Ministry is focused on using technology to make the armed forces more effective and efficient. He urged participants to display their innovations that can fit into military operations.
Magashi also noted that the global security situation is changing, and Nigeria must invest in homegrown technology. He believes that with the right support and resources, Nigerian innovators can develop solutions that address the country's specific security needs.
The event showcased various displays from local tech firms and startups. These companies presented their innovations in areas like cybersecurity, surveillance, and communication technologies. The minister again emphasized the government's willingness to work with these innovators to ensure their solutions are properly used in the security sector.
