Diaspora Group Supports Obanikoro as Hamzat's Campaign Leader

A political support group called Lagos Diaspora for Hamzat 2027 has backed the choice of former Minister of State for Defence and ex-Lagos senator, Musiliu Obanikoro, as the Director General of the campaign for Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat.

The group sees this appointment as a smart move that will boost the campaign’s grassroots efforts and political setup as the 2027 elections approach.

In a statement released on Sunday and signed by its Convener, Ayodeji Tinubu, the group mentioned that Obanikoro's extensive political background and strong grasp of Lagos politics make him a great fit for the job.

The group, made up of Lagosians living in places like the United Kingdom, Europe, North America, Asia, and the Middle East, believes that the former senator will lead the campaign effectively.

"This appointment is indeed a classic case of a round peg in a round hole," Tinubu said.

He emphasized that Obanikoro's long history in public service and politics would greatly benefit the campaign.

"Senator Obanikoro’s vast political experience, outstanding leadership skills, strategic thinking, and deep understanding of Lagos politics make him exceptionally qualified for this important responsibility," he added.

Tinubu also mentioned that the group trusts Obanikoro's ability to bring people together and handle different political interests. This would help build support for Hamzat within the All Progressives Congress.

"We are confident that under his leadership, the campaign structure will be strengthened and strategically positioned to deliver the candidacy of Dr. Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat to victory at the polls," Tinubu said.

He also pointed out that the diaspora group is ready to back the campaign using its international connections and resources.

He noted that members of the organization are set to mobilize Lagosians both at home and abroad for Hamzat’s political goals.

"We wish Senator Musiliu Obanikoro a successful tenure as Director General and pray that Almighty God grants him wisdom, strength, and good health as he undertakes this critical assignment," he said.

It is worth remembering that in May, the All Progressives Congress in Lagos State named Hamzat as its governorship candidate for the 2027 election.

The Chairman of the APC National Governorship Election Committee, Gen. Jon Temlong (retd.), announced the results in the presence of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, party leaders, and key stakeholders.

He described the process by party officials as peaceful and transparent.
