Controversial Nigerian creator, DJ Chicken, whose real name is Ademola Abiodun, is out of detention after meeting his bail conditions.
His lawyer, Rotimi Stephen, shared the news on Instagram on Tuesday. He posted a simple message that said, “All glory to God. DJ Chicken.”
Human rights activist and Sahara Reporters founder, Omoyele Sowore, also confirmed DJ Chicken's release in a post on X. He wrote, “DJ Chicken (real name Ademola Abiodun) is free and reunited with his family, friends, and loved ones.
“No one should suffer oppression while the rest of us watch in silence, especially at the hands of powerful and corrupt forces. An injury to one is an injury to all. We will continue to stand up for the weak and fight against injustice wherever it occurs.”
After he was released, a livestream on Instagram showed DJ Chicken in a vehicle, smiling and chatting with his followers. His lawyer was also in the vehicle during the livestream, which many people have screen-recorded and shared on social media.
DJ Chicken was taken to Kirikiri Correctional Centre on Friday. He was brought before a Magistrate Court in Ogba, Lagos, over an alleged threat to kill Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu.
He faced three charges related to the Cybercrimes Act, breach of peace, and making threats to kill. This followed a viral video where he claimed that President Tinubu would not win re-election in 2027.
After facing public backlash, the content creator apologized, saying it was a joke meant to get attention and boost his popularity. Despite this, he was arrested and taken to court.
DJ Chicken pleaded not guilty to all charges. The court granted him bail of ₦1 million with two sureties of equal amount. One surety must be a civil servant, and the other must be a community leader with property in Lagos State.
The court required both sureties to provide three years’ tax clearance, utility bills, National Identification Number information, and Lagos State Residents Registration Agency registration. One of the sureties must also be a blood relative of DJ Chicken.
The case is adjourned until August 3, 2026. The court had ordered his remand until the bail conditions were met. His release has sparked reactions online, with supporters celebrating while they wait for his trial to continue in August.
