The police in Ebonyi State have confirmed that students of the School of Health Technology, Ngbo, were attacked by suspected criminals.
Joshua Ukandu, the police Public Relations Officer, shared this news with the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday in Abakaliki. He said police have started investigating the incident.
Ukandu, who is a superintendent of police, reported that the attack happened around 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday and left about seven students hurt.
He explained that the attackers broke into the students' hostels and took their mobile phones and power banks.
About seven students suffered different levels of injuries during the attack. Ukandu mentioned that the police are working to identify and catch the attackers. He assured both residents and students that the police are dedicated to ensuring their safety.
The police spokesperson asked the public to stay calm and share any information that could help security agencies find the suspects.
This incident comes at a time when there are worries and unverified reports of bandit attacks in some communities in Ebonyi.
On Monday, Ukandu denied social media claims that bandits and herders attacked the Nguzu Edda Community in Edda Local Government Area.
He called the report of a bandit attack βfalse, misleading and capable of causing unnecessary panic among residents.β
Attacks by kidnappers and bandits across Nigeria have made the security situation tense in the country.
