Editors Praise Mbah's Development Projects in Enugu State

Leaders from Nigeria's media industry, part of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), have praised Governor Peter Mbah for his leadership in Enugu State. They say he has built strong infrastructure that will help the state's economy grow.

The editors shared their thoughts over the weekend during a meeting with Mbah at the Government House. This meeting followed their tour of several major projects by his administration. The tour was part of the 2026 All Nigerian Editors Conference (ANEC), which had over 300 editors, senior media leaders, and veterans in attendance.

NGE’s President, Eze Anaba, pointed out that Mbah's work on infrastructure shows what a state government can do when its leaders are focused and committed. He said, "There’s a solid infrastructure on ground that will grow the economy, that will expand the state. If a sub-national like Enugu can deploy resources effectively and can be this dedicated in terms of infrastructure, in terms of dedication to governance, then there is hope for Nigeria."

Last year, during the NGE biennial convention, they saw Smart Schools and the new Technical, Vocational Education and Training College at GTC. They also saw roads, modern transport terminals, and industries being revived. There were even reports of pipe-borne water returning to areas where it had been absent for years.

This time, they saw the completed Enugu International Hospital and an amazing road network. This includes the 40km Owo-Ubahu-Amankanu-Umualor-Ikem dual carriageway, which they were told would become a new route to North Central Nigeria.

They also saw the Hotel Presidential, which is now fully operational. They visited a nearly finished mega Smart Secondary School and the big tourism complex at Ngwo Pines, which features a zipline. They checked out the Integrated Livestock Hub, which can hold about 40,000 cattle, as explained by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof Chidiebere Onyia. They also saw the Command and Control Centre that has helped reduce crime rates significantly.

Eze Anaba recalled what Mbah said at the opening ceremony two days earlier, "Tomorrow is here." He added, "And with what we saw today, I believe you."

Eze also mentioned that some state governments are sending their officials to learn from Mbah's policies and projects. He praised the spirit of learning among governors, saying it would help states develop faster by sharing ideas.

He said, "It is no mean feat for a governor to attract the respect, the regard of his colleagues," while praising Mbah's leadership.

At the end of the conference, former Ogun State governor and media veteran, Chief Segun Oshoba, praised Mbah's achievements, especially in security. He urged other states to follow Enugu’s example in building advanced surveillance systems.

Oshoba highlighted how quickly the state used its security resources to find and rescue two hostages taken by kidnappers in Udi LGA. He said, "I was so confident that it can’t happen in Enugu and that the criminals would not go free. Thank you, Mr. Governor. You proved me right that there is no room for kidnappers in Enugu State."

He encouraged Mbah to continue his work, saying, "Keep it up, Governor Mbah. I will keep reminding the President that other governors should do what you are doing in Enugu State in the area of security and other areas."

Mbah thanked the media leaders for visiting the projects. He said these projects are designed to meet his campaign promise to grow Enugu State’s economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion. He wants to make the state a top place for investment, business, tourism, and living.

He said, "What you saw, the security, the transport, the investments, tourism, and all that, are all interconnected. They are mutually reinforcing. They’re all designed to achieve a common objective."

Mbah added, "When we took office, we laid out a few things. One was to grow the economy of the state exponentially. We also undertook to eradicate poverty and create a state where people can live, work, invest, and build futures. All you saw were all connected to actualising those promises."
