Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Amadin Enabulele, said on Monday that Edo Queens still have a chance to win the Nigeria Women Football League Super Six competition. This is despite their surprising 1-0 loss to Nasarawa Amazon on the first day at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Today, the Edo team will face FC Robo, who also have no points after losing 3-2 to the host team, River Angels. This makes the match crucial for the Queens.

Enabulele spoke to the PUNCH in a phone interview on Monday. He said today marks a new beginning for his team. He added that a win would help his team’s goal of winning the Super Six.

He acknowledged that losing to Nasarawa Amazon was unfortunate. He emphasized that the team needs to focus on winning against FC Robo to make up for the loss.

He said, "I spoke to the players yesterday and urged them to quickly put behind their disappointing defeat to Nasarawa Amazons in the opening match of the ongoing Super Six competition.

"The result is an unexpected setback, but the team remains focused on achieving its objectives in the tournament. The defeat was not the outcome the club had anticipated, but dwelling on the loss will not help the team’s campaign. It was a result we never expected, but we have to move on. We still have four more matches to play, and our attention is now on today’s game against FC Robo."

The match kicks off at 3pm. Enabulele assured fans that the players are eager to bounce back strongly. He said they are also preparing for their next game against Abia Angels, and they are aiming for victory.

He added, "The players understand what is at stake, and they are ready to fight for the maximum points. Despite the early setback, we still have four matches to play. We are optimistic about the club’s chances of winning the Super Six title. The championship race remains wide open."

Enabulele believes that Edo Queens can win the last four matches and become champions. He noted, "Football is full of surprises, and we have the quality, determination, and experience to turn things around.

"We are looking to revive our title ambitions when we face FC Robo, knowing that a victory could reignite our quest for NWFL Super Six glory."
