Edo Queens Football Club has agreed to the decision by the Confederation of African Football. They will play the remaining extra time of the WAFU-B final against Ampem FC of Ghana on October 29, 2026, in Cairo, Egypt.
Ojieva Ehiosunhe, the club’s media officer, said the result of the appeal was not what they had hoped for.
Ehiosunhe explained that after discussions with their Board, the Edo State Government, and the Nigeria Football Federation, the team chose to finish the match for fairness. The team will leave for Cairo on Monday.
The club thanked the Edo State Government and the NFF for their support and guidance during the appeal process.
“Our mission remains the same: to fight, to win and to secure our place in the CAF Women’s Champions League,” the club stated.
The club recognized the disappointment of their supporters. They said they share the fans' desire to settle the matter on the pitch.
“We have decided to move forward with courage, discipline and resilience,” they added.
Edo Queens also expressed thanks to their fans and the media for their support during the appeal. They urged fans to continue backing the team as they prepare for the crucial match.
The club mentioned that their players and technical crew are focused and ready to represent Edo State and Nigeria with pride.
Remember, Edo Queens beat Ampem FC of Ghana 4-1 in penalties after the WAFU B final match in Burkina Faso ended 2-2 at the end of 90 minutes.
However, the Ghanaians protested the referee’s penalty call. They insisted that the extra time of 30 minutes should have been played before penalties, according to the rules. The CAF disciplinary and appeals board later heard the case and ruled in favour of the Ghana team.
