The lawmaker for Kogi Central Senatorial District, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has called on Muslims in Nigeria to use Eid-el-Maulud to promote peace, kindness, unity, and peaceful living together.
In a message sent from Abuja on Tuesday, she congratulated Muslims, especially those in Kogi Central. She urged them to think about the life, teachings, and good example of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
The senator said this yearly celebration should not just be about fun. It should be a time for Muslims to renew their commitment to values that can help make the country stronger, especially during tough social and economic times.
She said, "Maulud is a beautiful opportunity for us to reflect on the life and teachings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), whose message emphasized compassion, justice, humility, peace, and love for humanity. These timeless values remain essential to building a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria."
Promoting Harmony in Kogi Central
Akpoti-Uduaghan also encouraged Muslims in Kogi Central to keep the long-standing tradition of living peacefully with different communities and religious groups in the area.
She mentioned that Kogi Central has a strong history of religious and community harmony, which should be protected and strengthened through respect and understanding.
"I urge you to continue to be ambassadors of peace, tolerance, and unity. Our diversity should never divide us; rather, it should strengthen our collective resolve to build communities where everyone can live, worship, and pursue their aspirations in peace," she said.
The senator also asked Muslim leaders, parents, and youths to use this celebration to promote good behavior, peaceful discussions, kindness to the less fortunate, and responsible citizenship.
Caring for the Less Privileged
She highlighted the need to support vulnerable people in society, saying that caring for the poor and needy aligns with the humanitarian values shown by the Prophet.
"As we celebrate Maulud, let us remember the less privileged among us. Let us share, forgive, show compassion, and extend a helping hand to those in need. The true beauty of this celebration lies not only in our words and gatherings but also in the positive impact we make in the lives of others."
The lawmaker urged Nigerians to reject religious intolerance, hatred, violence, and divisive language, especially at a time when more unity and understanding are needed.
She called on political, traditional, and religious leaders to promote peaceful living together and constructive discussions across communities.
"Nigeria belongs to all of us, and our collective progress depends on our ability to live together in peace. Let us use the lessons of Mawlid to strengthen our commitment to unity, justice, compassion, and peaceful coexistence," she stated.
