The security team searching the bushes in Ekiti State has saved two kidnapping victims, a 35-year-old man named Iorfa Solomon and a 37-year-old woman named Blessing Kingsley. They were found in a forest area between Ekiti and Kogi states.
The team also caught a suspected kidnapper, Abubakar Kabiru, during the operation.
Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, shared that investigations showed the two victims were taken from Aluta Bar in Ikoyi, Kogi State around 9pm on June 4, 2026.
Abutu released a statement in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday evening. He said, "The police worked together with the military, Amotekun Corps, and local vigilantes. While searching the bushes, they found a kidnapper's den in the forest between Irele-Ekiti in Ekiti State and Ogbe in Kogi State, where the two victims, Solomon and Kingsley, were held."
"When the operatives arrived, the kidnappers shot at them. One suspect was caught, but others ran away. Luckily, the two victims were rescued without any injuries."
"Investigation showed that the two victims were taken while they were on duty at Aluta Bar in Ikoyi, Kogi State on June 4, 2026, at about 9pm."
The victims explained that about eight armed men surrounded them at the bar, shot into the air, and took them into the forest. Other customers at the bar managed to escape unharmed.
During questioning, suspect Kabiru admitted to the crime. He recognized the two rescued victims, and they confirmed he was one of the kidnappers.
Kabiru also mentioned seven other gang members who are still on the run. Efforts are ongoing to catch the others.
The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Michael Falade, urged everyone to stay alert and work with the police and other security agencies to combat crime in the state, according to the PPRO.
