Nigeria’s Super Falcons showed their strength at the Remo Stars Stadium on Tuesday night, beating Comoros 5-0 in the second leg. This win gave them a total of 7-0 on aggregate and moved them to the next round of the CAF Women’s Olympic qualifying series.
With a solid 2-0 lead from the first leg, the 10-time African champions easily broke down the defense of the island nation. Toni Payne and Uchenna Kanu were outstanding, each scoring two goals to destroy the Comorian defense. Midfielder Christy Ucheibe also shone by scoring from the penalty spot, adding to the impressive win.
Sadly, the victory came with bad news as captain Rasheedat Ajibade suffered an injury during the match. The star player had to leave the field, raising concerns for the team ahead of tougher matches to come.
Folashade Ijamilusi stepped in for Ajibade after her injury. Ijamilusi quickly made her presence felt, teaming up with fellow substitute Blessing Okpe. Together, they brought fresh energy and creativity to the attack, helping the team finish off the game strongly.
This big win guarantees Nigeria's spot in the next stage, setting up an exciting third-round qualifier against Morocco. The Super Falcons are getting closer to the 2028 Olympic Games.
