The family of a mobile police officer, Abdulrahman Auwal, was killed on Kwi-Beco Road between Barkin Ladi and Riyom local government areas in Plateau State on Monday. They are asking the Inspector-General of Police to look into the officer’s death.

The family has many questions about what happened, like how the officer was attacked and why the motorcycle rider who was with him survived.

Mr Auwal was said to be returning from a community service when he was killed. He was buried at Zaria Cemetery in Jos on Saturday.

His mother, Larai Musa, said she has accepted her son’s death as God's will but wants the police to find out what really happened.

“There are still unanswered questions surrounding the death of my son. He was reported to have been cut with a sharp object while on a motorcycle with an okada rider. My son was killed, and the okada rider is alive,” she stated.

Ms Musa questioned how the attack happened. She urged the police to talk to the commercial motorcycle rider.

“The okada rider who reported the death should be able to explain where he took him to, who stopped them, and who attacked only the passenger,” she added.

The family wants the police to give a clear account of what happened and explain how the officer died.

They also expressed their disappointment that, four days after the incident, no police officers or colleagues of the deceased came to offer their condolences.

As of the time of this report, the Plateau State Police Command had not released any official statement on the incident.

Efforts to get a response from the police command were unsuccessful since the police spokesperson was not reachable by phone.
