Family in Ogun Searches for Missing Teenager After Eight Days

The family of Imole Ilesanmi, a teenager, is worried about her safety after she went missing in Agbado, Ogun State.

Imole was last seen around 3 PM on Sunday, September 20, 2026, when she left her family's house. Her father shared with PUNCH Metro that he asked her to cook for him before she vanished.

He said they later found out that she intended to visit a cleric in the Popóshóla area after cooking. "She went missing on Sunday around 3 PM. She was at home and I asked her to cook for me. The information we got was that she said she wanted to go and see an Alfa in that area after cooking. Since then, we have not heard from her."

The father added, "We have been calling her line. It was ringing from Sunday until Monday morning, but nobody answered. Her friends and some people we asked also said she mentioned that she was going towards that area."

The family reported her disappearance at the Agbado Police Station. They stated that the cleric was initially detained but later let go. The family is worried about his release, believing he might have information on where Imole is.

According to him, some people told the family where the cleric lived, and others claimed to have seen Imole in the area. But the cleric, known only as Alfa, denied knowing her location. He said she did not visit him the day she disappeared.

"She did not say she wanted to come to my place. She said she was going to Popóshóla. Even her friend said she was going to Popóshóla, not my house."

Alfa mentioned that he did not see Imole on Sunday or Monday when she was reportedly seen around the neighborhood. He said, "I used to see her before, but I did not see her on that Sunday."

He stated that he was held for a day, with a police officer staying at his house during that time. "They detained me for one day. There was a police officer with me at my house throughout that Sunday. He can testify that she was not at my place throughout that day."

Imole’s sister, Ayomide Ilesanmi, shared that the family has not figured out what happened since she was last seen. "The neighbour said they saw her walking up and down. She was restless and kept walking, and they told her to rest. Later, they did not hear from her again."

Ayomide continued, "We were told that she went to Popóshóla and that she branched at her friend’s place. We waited for her to come back, but minutes turned to hours and then days. It has been four days and she has still not come back."

She mentioned that the family had gone to churches and a mosque to pray for Imole’s return. "Since we started posting everywhere, different rumours have been coming. Some people would say they found her body or that they found something concerning her, but when we checked, we discovered that the information was fake."

Ayomide expressed the difficulty of dealing with all the false information. "It has been hard for us because we keep receiving different information and we don’t know which one to believe."

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Babaseyi Oluseyi, had not responded to inquiries about the case when contacted. A senior police officer aware of the situation confirmed the case but did not give more details.
