Missing retired policeman last seen meeting with cattle dealer

A retired Superintendent of Police, Emmanuel Ahmed, has gone missing after leaving his home in Abeokuta, Ogun State. He was heading to meet a Fulani man about a cattle deal.

Ahmed’s son, Emmanuel Nehemiah, spoke to PUNCH Metro on Sunday. He said his father left home on July 23, 2026, after receiving a call from a Fulani man named Muhammed Saleh. Saleh invited Ahmed to meet him at Rounder, along Ayetoro Road, before heading to Alamutu Market to sell two cows.

Nehemiah mentioned that his father informed his wife about the meeting. Saleh had told Ahmed it was market day at Alamutu, where they could sell cows, goats, and other livestock. He asked Ahmed to meet him at Rounder so they could go to the market together.

“My father left home and went to Rounder to meet him. As a retired Superintendent of Police, he knew some officers at a checkpoint there and stopped to greet them,” Nehemiah shared.

“When we began searching for him, the police officers said they saw him with the Fulani man on his Bajaj motorcycle. They reported my father had given Saleh a ride and was returning to Abeokuta from Alamutu Market.”

Nehemiah added that police at the checkpoint confirmed they saw his father with Saleh on the motorcycle. This was the last time anyone saw Ahmed, and he did not return home that night despite family members trying to contact him.

The family reported his disappearance to the police. Initially, the local division handled the case, but it was later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department and the anti-kidnapping unit at Eleweran.

“We got the Fulani man’s phone number to trace his movements and identify anyone who had contact with him. Both Saleh’s and my father’s phones are switched off,” Nehemiah said.

“We also tracked Saleh’s movements. We found information showing he moved around Oyo State and had contact with other Fulani men. The police arrested two people and handed them to the anti-kidnapping unit at Eleweran, Abeokuta.”

Nehemiah expressed worry that the family had not received much information since the case was transferred. He mentioned that they were reaching out to higher authorities to escalate the issue.

“Our main concern is to find out if my father is alive and safe, especially since he has high blood pressure,” he stated. “We want to confirm that he is okay and then work on bringing him back home.”

When contacted for an update on Sunday, the Ogun State Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Opeyemi Oluborode, confirmed the situation. He said the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, has directed the anti-kidnapping unit to ensure they find the missing retired officer.

“The command knows about the incident. Once the matter was reported, the CP instructed the anti-kidnapping unit to ensure the man is rescued safely and returned to his family. The command is working hard to ensure the man’s safe return. We are also committed to protecting the lives and properties of everyone in the state,” Oluborode said.
