Father held for allegedly raping his 14-year-old daughter

A man named Ikenna Mojekwu has been held in custody after he appeared on Wednesday before the Gender Magistrate Court in Awka, Anambra State. He is accused of raping his 14-year-old daughter.

The alleged crime happened in Aguluzoigbo, a community in the Anaocha Local Government Area. Tochukwu Ikenga, the police spokesperson for Anambra State and a Superintendent of Police, shared this information in a statement on Thursday. Mr Ikenga also confirmed that Mr Mojekwu was brought to court along with two other men facing similar sexual crime charges.

The police also brought Chibuike Ikemelu to court for allegedly having "unlawful sexual intercourse" with a 14-year-old girl. Mr Ikenga mentioned that this incident led to the girl becoming pregnant, and it took place in Abatete, which is in the Idemili North Local Government Area. Additionally, a 16-year-old named Chukwuma Emenike was arraigned for allegedly raping an eight-year-old girl in Umuoji, also in the Idemili North Local Government Area.

"The suspects were taken to court following police investigations and were held according to the court’s orders. The cases have been postponed to later dates for more hearings," Mr Ikenga stated.

He added that these court cases show the police's dedication to protecting vulnerable people and getting justice for victims of sexual and gender-based violence. The police have emphasized their commitment to investigate and prosecute all such cases and encourage the public to report these crimes quickly.
