Man arrested for allegedly raping a 70-year-old woman in Edo State

The Edo State Police have arrested a 37-year-old man for allegedly raping a 70-year-old woman in Igueben, Edo State.

The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, announced this on Wednesday during a press briefing about the command’s activities in the past week.

Ikoedem, speaking for the Commissioner of Police, Patrick Daaor, said the suspect is in custody while the investigation into the case is ongoing.

She mentioned that the case is “being thoroughly investigated.” She added that the suspect will face prosecution according to the law once the investigation is done.

Ikoedem said, “Regrettably, sexual violence remains a serious concern. The Command has in custody a 37-year-old male suspect in connection with the alleged rape of a 70-year-old woman in Igueben.

“The case is being thoroughly investigated, and the suspect will be prosecuted in accordance with the law upon conclusion of investigation.”
