Ogun Police Arrest Man for Rape of 19-Year-Old

The Ogun State Police have arrested a 20-year-old man named Ayomide Kamula. He is accused of raping a 19-year-old woman in the Oke Sopen area of Ijebu-Igbo.

The police are also searching for another suspect, Boye Balogun. Reports say he ran away after the incident.

According to a police statement on their X handle on Thursday, the alleged crime happened on August 30, 2026. It took place at the victim’s home in Odo Idi Scale, Oke Sopen, Ijebu-Igbo.

The victim’s mother reported the case at the Ijebu-Igbo Police Division on Tuesday, September 1, around 10:10 a.m. Police quickly started an investigation after the report.

Officers went to the scene of the alleged crime to collect evidence. They made sure to secure the area.

The victim was taken to the General Hospital for medical checks and care. The police issued a Medical Form for the investigation.

After some initial inquiries, police operatives located and arrested Kamula. He is now in custody and being questioned.

The police stated, "Robust operational measures and intelligence-led searches have been intensified to track down and apprehend the fleeing co-suspect."

The case is now being passed to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further action and prosecution.

Bode Ojajuni, the Commissioner of Police for Ogun State, spoke out against the crime. He emphasized the police's strong stand against sexual and gender-based violence.

Ojajuni called sexual and gender-based violence "an egregious crime that will not be tolerated under any circumstance."

He assured the public and the victim’s family that the police are dedicated to fighting sexual crimes in the state. "The Command maintains a zero-tolerance policy against sexual offences across the state," he said.

Ojajuni promised that a thorough and discreet investigation is ongoing. "No stone will be left unturned" in finding the suspect who is still on the run.
