The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has given the green light to restart work on the long-abandoned Utako General Hospital. They will also renovate and upgrade 14 other general hospitals in the area.

Adedolapo Fasawe, who is the FCT Mandate Secretary for Health and Environmental Services, shared this news with journalists. This announcement came after the 19th FCT Executive Council meeting on Tuesday. The meeting was led by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

Fasawe explained that the plan includes building and equipping the Utako hospital. They will also provide medical equipment and improve current facilities in the area.

She mentioned that Wike has ordered that work at the Utako General Hospital should start immediately. The hospital has been abandoned for many years.

Fasawe said the plan goes beyond just building the facility. It also covers equipping and staffing the hospital. This is to ensure that once completed, the hospital can deliver healthcare services effectively.

For the 14 existing general hospitals, the administration will buy new medical equipment like X-ray machines and diagnostic tools. They also plan to upgrade the hospital theatres.

According to her, these efforts aim to make sure that residents have better access to reliable and affordable healthcare.

Fasawe added that the administration has been keeping up with its financial responsibilities. They have been paying health insurance providers and health maintenance organisations (HMOs) regularly.
