FIFA has let go of its Chief Operating Officer, Kevin Lamour. This happened less than three weeks after he openly criticized President Gianni Infantino. He spoke out against a plan to sell part of a company that would handle FIFA's commercial and ticketing rights.

FIFA confirmed on Monday that Lamour's time with the organization has ended. BBC Sport reported that this decision followed his remarks about the FIFA Forward Enterprise project.

A FIFA spokesperson stated, “The working relationship between FIFA and Kevin Lamour as Chief Operating Officer has ended on 17 August 2026.” They also thanked him for his two years of service.

Lamour called the FFE proposal “the project of one person” and said FIFA’s administration had been “deceived” about the initiative. He was not shy about criticizing Infantino’s leadership, stating, “A president must bring people together, unite them, and inspire them. Today, we are experiencing the opposite.”

The plan for the FFE company was scrapped after several football bodies opposed selling 21 percent of it to private investors. UEFA, Concacaf, and the Asian Football Confederation spoke out against the proposal.

UEFA even threatened to boycott the World Cup if the plan moved forward. This issue has also impacted Infantino’s push for a fourth term as FIFA president. Both UEFA and Concacaf have pulled their support for his re-election.

On Monday, the Scottish Football Association also withdrew its support for Infantino. They joined England, Wales, Northern Ireland, and the Republic of Ireland in this decision.

In contrast, the football bodies representing Africa, South America, and Oceania are still backing Infantino.
