FIFA has chosen Slovenian referee Slavko Vinčić to officiate the 2026 FIFA World Cup final. This match will be between Spain and Argentina.
The football governing body shared the news on its official X account on Friday. Fans are excited as the final will take place on Sunday.
Vinčić will have support from two other Slovenians. Tomaž Klančnik will be the first assistant referee, while Andraž Kovačič will be the second assistant referee. Jordan’s Adham Makhadmeh will be the fourth official, and Mohammad Alkalaf will be the reserve assistant referee.
The final match will happen at the New York New Jersey Stadium in the USA. This stadium can hold 80,663 fans. Kick-off is set for 3:00 p.m. local time (EDT).
Spain earned their spot in the final after defeating France in the semi-final. They played a strong game to reach this stage.
Argentina, the defending champions, are led by Lionel Messi. They made it to the final after winning knockout matches against Egypt, Switzerland, and England.
This final will be the 104th and last match of the expanded 48-team FIFA World Cup. The winners will be crowned world champions.
Argentina wants to keep the title they won in Qatar in 2022. On the other hand, Spain aims to win another World Cup after their triumph in 2010.
