Fire at Kano Petrol Station Linked to Generator Fault

A fire broke out at a petrol station in Rano Local Government Area of Kano State on Tuesday night. Firefighters stopped the fire from spreading to other parts of the station.

The incident happened at Tukur Muhd Nig. Limited, located along Saya Saya Road, Rano, around 9:20 PM.

The Kano State Fire Service shared this information in a statement on Wednesday. The statement was made by ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the Public Relations Officer of the service.

According to the statement, the Emergency Response Unit at Rano Fire Station got a call from the station’s manager, Abubakar Umar. He reported the fire outbreak.

"On Tuesday, 25 August 2026, at about 21:20 hours, our Emergency Response Unit received a distress call from Abubakar Umar, the manager of Tukur Muhd Nig. Limited, reporting a fire outbreak at the premises," the statement said.

Firefighters from Rano Fire Station responded quickly to the call and went to the scene. "Upon arrival, our men found a ground-floor building measuring approximately 200 by 100 feet, being used as a petrol filling station," the statement added.

The fire reportedly started from a Mikano generator. It also affected the back tyres of a Canter vehicle, which were slightly burning.

"The fire started from a Mikano generator and affected the back tyres of a Canter vehicle, which were slightly alight," the statement said.

Fortunately, the firefighters managed to contain the fire and stop it from spreading to other areas of the station. "Our men successfully contained the fire and prevented it from spreading to other parts of the filling station," the agency said.

The Kano State Fire Service said the fire was caused by a fault in the generator, and thankfully, there were no casualties.

The agency's Director, Alhaji Sani Anas, advised residents to stay alert and take steps to prevent fire outbreaks. "Members of the public should remain vigilant and take proactive measures to reduce the incidence of fire outbreaks," Anas said.

He also encouraged residents and business owners to have fire-safety equipment ready and in good working order. "We appeal to residents to equip their homes and business premises with functional fire extinguishers and ensure that appropriate fire-safety measures are observed at all times," he added.
