The Kwara State Fire Service has found the body of a man, believed to be about 50 years old, in a river close to Royal Valley Bridge in the Kulende area of Ilorin.

The recovery took place on Tuesday. A passerby saw the body floating in the river and contacted a radio station. The station then informed the fire service.

Hassan Adekunle, the Public Relations Officer of the agency, shared this information in a statement sent to The PUNCH in Ilorin.

Firefighters got the report and reached the scene at 3:44 pm to start the recovery process.

"The firefighters commenced a recovery operation and successfully recovered the body of an unidentified man estimated to be about 50 years old," the statement said.

The body was given to SUP Abdulganiu Garuba of the E-Division Police Station in Kulende, Ilorin, for further action.

The statement mentioned that the details of how the man died and the situation surrounding the incident are still unclear. Investigations are expected to provide more information.

Alabi Muhammed, the Chief Fire Officer, praised the passerby for quickly reporting the body. He also thanked the radio station for ensuring the fire service received the alert.

He encouraged residents to report emergencies and any suspicious activities to the right authorities to help get timely responses.

This incident follows a similar case about two weeks ago when a man was feared drowned after a reported fight at Asa Bridge along Emir’s Road in Ilorin on October 18, when he jumped into a river.
