Fires in Lagos Destroy Goods Worth Millions

Two separate fires in Ikorodu and Surulere areas of Lagos State have caused major losses in goods and property worth millions of naira. This information comes from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).

Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, shared this news in a statement on Monday.

The first fire incident took place at Adamo Bus Stop, Ikorodu, early Monday morning. The fire, believed to be caused by faulty electrical wiring, started in a hairdressing shop and quickly spread to nearby shops.

Oke-Osanyintolu mentioned that three shops were affected, leading to the loss of goods and property worth millions of naira. Responders from LASEMA and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Imota, rushed to the scene to control the fire and put it out completely.

He explained, "Preliminary findings revealed that the fire originated from a spark from electrical wiring which ignited the roof of a hairdressing shop and spread to adjoining shops." He also noted that they carried out dampening operations to stop the fire from reigniting. Thankfully, there were no reports of deaths or injuries.

In another fire incident on Monday morning, Oke-Osanyintolu reported that two shops selling furniture and provisions were burned down at 19 Olatunde Onimole Street, near Bakery Bus Stop in Surulere. The cause of this fire is still unknown.

He added that both shops were completely destroyed along with their contents. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported, and dampening operations were also done to prevent the fire from coming back.
