Four members of the National Youth Service Corps and one soldier have died in a road accident on the Yola, Mubi road in Adamawa State.
The crash happened on Wednesday around 1:50 p.m. in the Narehi area, which is part of the Girei/Song Local Government Area.
SP Suleiman Nguroje, the spokesman for the Adamawa State Police Command, confirmed this in a statement on Thursday.
"The unfortunate incident involved a military gun truck going from Gombi to Yola and a commercial Hummer bus carrying five passengers from Yola to Mubi.
"Initial reports show that both vehicles crashed into each other head-on, causing the commercial bus to flip over and catch fire," he said.
All five people in the bus were reportedly burnt to death.
"Preliminary identification shows that four of the deceased were serving members of the NYSC in Adamawa State.
"They are Suleiman Juliet, a female, and Usman Shuaibu, a male, both from Kaduna State, while the other victims have not been identified yet," he added.
The police also confirmed that a soldier in the military vehicle died in the accident.
Police officers and emergency responders took the bodies of the victims to a specialist hospital in Yola.
The state Commissioner of Police, Kabir Hassan, expressed his sympathy to the families of those who died, the Nigerian Armed Forces, and the NYSC.
