The Kano State Emergency Management Agency has confirmed that five people died after a heavy rainstorm hit Bichi Local Government Area last week.

The Executive Secretary of the agency, Alhaji Isyaku Kubarachi, shared this information in a phone call with PUNCH Metro on Thursday.

"Five persons lost their lives in Bichi as a result of the rainstorm, not eight as some media outlets wrongly reported," he said.

He mentioned that agency staff had gone to the area to see the damage caused by the storm.

"During the assessment visit, we were able to find out the actual number of casualties, and the number of houses and properties destroyed during the incident," Kubarachi said.

He added that the agency has written a report and sent it to the state government for help for the victims.

"We have sent our report to the state government. As soon as we get relief materials, they will be shared with the affected people as usual," the executive secretary noted.

The rainstorm occurred on Wednesday, 22nd July 2026. It also destroyed houses and valuable properties worth millions of naira.

In a related development, the Kano State House of Assembly has called on the state government to quickly provide relief materials for the victims to ease their suffering.

This call came after a motion of urgent public importance was adopted by the member representing Bichi Constituency, Lawan Shehu, during a plenary session led by Speaker Jibril Falgore on Wednesday, 29th July 2026.
