Five suspects caught as Delta police seize guns and stolen bikes

Operatives of the Delta State Police have recovered three suspected stolen motorcycles and three pump-action guns. Five suspects were arrested in different operations as the police continue their fight against violent crime in the state.

The police spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, shared this news in a signed statement on Monday in Warri. He said, "On July 27, 2026, operatives of ‘C’ Division, Asaba, intercepted and arrested one Joseph Tyavzua along the Asaba, Onitsha Expressway during a stop-and-search operation."

He added, "The suspect was found in possession of one pump-action gun while attempting to enter Onitsha on a commercial motorcycle." The suspect claimed to be a vigilante member but could not show any legal authority for having the gun.

"Consequently, the exhibit was recovered, while the suspect remains in custody as the investigation continues," the police spokesperson noted.

In another operation on the same day, July 27, 2026, police acted on a report about an armed robbery involving a motorcycle rider on Jakpa Road, Effurun. Officers from the Ekpan Division started a focused investigation that led to the arrest of the main suspects, Edodo Gift (41) and Emoefe Solomon (27).

The suspects admitted to the crime and directed police to two suspected receivers, Fodio Bello (27) and Kabiru Mohammed (25), in Otowhe, near Oleh. The police spokesperson said this operation resulted in the recovery of two pump-action guns and three motorcycles believed to have been stolen during robbery activities.

"All four suspects are in custody, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the criminal group," he explained.

Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, praised the officers for their successful work. He also reaffirmed the police command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and the ongoing fight against violent criminals.

The police chief urged residents to keep providing timely and reliable information to support their efforts in maintaining safety in Delta State.
