Nigeria's Flamingos got their 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup journey back on track with a solid 2-0 win over Puerto Rico. This match happened on Tuesday at the Mohammed VI Football Complex. Puerto Rico is playing in the World Cup for the first time.
After losing 2-1 to Poland in their first match last Saturday, head coach Akeem Busari made important changes to improve the team's midfield and defense.
These changes worked well as the Flamingos took charge right from the start of the match. Forward Oluwakemi Adegbuyi scored the first goal for Nigeria in the 25th minute. She finished well after the Flamingos applied early pressure.
Nigeria kept control of the game, pressing high and making it tough for Puerto Rico to create chances. The Nigerian defense played strongly, ensuring they did not concede any goals.
In the final moments of the game, substitute Precious Oscar added another goal in the 93rd minute. This goal confirmed the win and secured all three points for Nigeria.
With this victory, the Flamingos now have three points in the tournament. They are eager to reach the Round of 16. Their next match is on Friday against DPR Korea, a strong team from Asia.
