Luter Iyorhe, the new chairman of Flight football club, is known as “The Game Changer.” He dreams of leading the “Transporters” to victory in this year’s President Federation Cup.
The recent success of the NationWide League One (NLO) team is linked to Iyorhe's appointment. He is a former player for Lobi Stars and Sharks of Port-Harcourt.
Since he took over, the Gboko-based club has gone unbeaten at the Makurdi Centre of the NLO. They have secured a spot in the national playoff and hope to win one of the Nigeria National League (NNL) tickets.
In another exciting turn, the amateur side shocked their bigger rivals, Lobi Stars, with a 1-0 win in the 2026 Benue FA Cup final. This victory means they will represent the state at the national level.
In the Federation Cup Round of 64, Flight FC defeated Adamawa Academy 2-1. They then faced Mighty Jets in the Round of 32 and won 5-4 on penalties, setting the stage for a Round of 16 match against Bida Lions.
As the “Transporters” gear up for their biggest match ever, Iyorhe expressed that they want to be more than just underdogs. Their goal is to reach the final of Nigeria’s oldest club football competition.
“We have a tall ambition but it is not taller than our collective commitment towards the set goal,” Iyorhe said.
“Flight FC is motivated enough to aspire to win this year’s Federation Cup. In the last edition, only a few people gave Abakaliki FC a chance but in the end, they played the title deciding match.
“Flight FC will continue to take one match at a time but we want to be this edition’s giant-killers. We believe in our ability to do the unimaginable,” said Iyorhe, one of the youngest club chairmen in Nigeria.
He also credited the club’s success to the strong financial support from the owners, Flight Transport Limited, and the many fans who back the team.
