Flying Eagles Lose 4-1 to Burkina Faso in WAFU B U20 Final

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles lost 4-1 to Burkina Faso in the final of the 2026 WAFU Zone B U-20 Championship on Sunday. The match took place at Stade Charles Konan Banny in Yamoussoukro, Ivory Coast.

It was a tough match for the defending champions. Burkina Faso stunned Nigeria with a strong first-half performance. Nigeria tried to bounce back but struggled to recover in the second half.

Burkina Faso scored three quick goals in the first half, taking a 3-0 lead into the break. They took advantage of Nigeria’s defensive mistakes, using their speed and direct play. The early goals put Nigeria on the back foot.

In the second half, Nigeria had a glimmer of hope. Forward Muiz Adeleke scored from the penalty spot, making it 3-1. This briefly raised spirits on the Nigerian bench.

Abdu Maikaba’s team pushed harder and created some chances. But the score gap and Burkina Faso's solid defense made it hard for Nigeria to come back.

Burkina Faso finished the match with a fourth goal late in the game, sealing the 4-1 victory. This was the second time the Young Stallions defeated the Flying Eagles in the tournament, having also won their earlier group-stage match.

Burkina Faso rightfully took home the regional trophy. They will represent the WAFU B zone along with hosts Ghana at next year’s Africa U20 Cup of Nations.
