Fulham's head coach Alvaro Arbeloa has made it clear that his future is not what he is worried about right now. His main goal is to help the struggling Premier League team get their first win of the season against Hull City on Saturday.
Currently, Fulham is at the bottom of the table with only two points after six matches. They have two draws and four losses, which has increased the pressure on the Spanish manager.
Arbeloa, who is 43 years old, may lose his job if Fulham suffers another defeat when they face Hull at Craven Cottage. Despite this, the former Liverpool defender said this week felt normal even with the talk about his job.
According to BBC Sport on Friday, Arbeloa said, "It is not about me, it is about the club, the players and the supporters. It is not about my future. As I said before, it is about the club and my players."
Fulham nearly got their first win last weekend against Ipswich Town. Ryan Sessegnon scored the first goal, but two late goals meant they ended up with another disappointing result.
They also missed a win against Manchester United before the international break. Matheus Cunha scored a late deflected goal, which denied them all three points.
Arbeloa mentioned that his players are eager to give the supporters the win they deserve. He said, "They are looking for the reward and looking for a game where they can get a win for the supporters; they deserve it because of their support. It is important for all of us."
The Spaniard joined Fulham in the summer on a three-year contract, taking over from Marco Silva after a short period as Real Madrid’s interim head coach. Despite his tough start in English football, Fulham has reached the last 16 of the Carabao Cup and will play Crystal Palace at home this month.
When asked whether he thought his players were still committed to his plans, Arbeloa pointed to their performances against Ipswich, Manchester United, and Liverpool. Fulham managed a goalless draw at Anfield.
He said, "They did for many minutes against Ipswich. We did against Manchester United, and we did against Liverpool. For me, we need to try to keep that level for 90 minutes; that is important."
Arbeloa also added that his players had the right attitude in training leading up to the important match. He said, "I saw the commitment of the players in how they have been training. They are so focused on tomorrow’s game."
A good result against Hull would give Fulham some relief and take the pressure off their manager as they prepare for another tough match against Championship winners Coventry City next weekend.
