Former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has called Anthony Joshua a “stepping stone” on his way to a likely rematch with Oleksandr Usyk. This was ahead of their eagerly awaited fight in Cardiff on December 11.
Fury shared these thoughts in his first public comments since the fight with Joshua was announced. He predicts he will knock out Joshua within seven rounds at the Principality Stadium.
“I’m just going to knock him out, one hundred per cent,” Fury said on the Furocity YouTube channel on Sunday.
“I’m going to box the head off him and stop him inside six or seven rounds.”
Fury, who lost to Usyk twice in 2024, made it clear that his main goal is to get another shot at the Ukrainian champion.
“I’m only using Joshua as a stepping stone, a warm-up to Usyk,” he said.
Fury also took aim at Joshua’s fitness, questioning if the two-time world champ has the speed and stamina to keep up with him.
“Joshua, for me, is an old bum. A weightlifter. Too many weights, not enough speed. Too many weights, no cardio,” Fury said.
He added that he plans to dominate Joshua, saying he would “cut through him like a hot knife through butter.”
The fight on December 11 will feature two of Britain’s top heavyweight boxers. Both are eager to make a strong impression at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium.
