Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has asked Nigerians to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) before the 2027 general elections.
Makinde made this request in a video he shared on his social media on Tuesday. He showed his PVC while encouraging everyone to get theirs ahead of the elections.
In a statement that went with the video, the governor mentioned that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) confirmed that PVC collection would start on October 9, 2026.
“INEC has confirmed that Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) collection commences on 9 October 2026. Please get your PVC so that you can participate in the 2027 election,” he said.
In the video, Makinde said the PVC is a symbol of the citizens' power to choose their leaders.
“Fellow Nigerians, INEC has set December 12th as the date for people to start collecting their Permanent Voter Card. This is your power. Irrespective of who you want to vote for, let’s go out, collect your PVC, and you will use it wisely,” he said.
Makinde encouraged Nigerians to be part of the electoral process, no matter which candidates they plan to support.
The governor is running for the 2027 presidential election under the Allied Peoples Movement.
He became the party's presidential candidate in May 2026 and has started preparing for his presidential campaign.
On Tuesday, his campaign organization set up its National Campaign Management Committee in Abuja. The campaign aims for between 41 million and 68 million votes in the 2027 election.
Makinde was first elected as the governor of Oyo State in 2019 and was re-elected in 2023. He wants to succeed President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
