Popular gospel singer Yinka Alaseyori has apologised after facing criticism for her comments about the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oyo State.

In a video she shared on her Instagram page on Wednesday, Alaseyori recognised the worries of Nigerians. She expressed regret that her earlier words seemed insensitive to the victims and their families.

Alaseyori said her aim was not to downplay the seriousness of the situation or ignore the feelings of those affected by the tragedy.

“I did a video two days ago about the kidnapped children, touching on government, parastatals and every agency. But when I woke up yesterday, I found out that some well-meaning Nigerians were not happy about it, as I made them feel their voices are unheard,” she explained.

The gospel singer expressed sadness over the reaction to her video. She asked Nigerians, especially parents, to forgive her if her words caused any pain.

“You know me too well that I would never make you feel like that. Mothers, do not be offended. I am sorry. I beg in God’s name. Please, forgive me. I would never think like that. Pardon and forgive me,” she said.

Her apology came after many reacted to her earlier video. In that video, Alaseyori encouraged Nigerians to keep praying for the country’s security issues. She also said the Federal Government and President Bola Tinubu were working to rescue the victims and restore peace.

Some Nigerians took to social media to debate her comments. They argued that just praying was not enough and that the authorities needed to act more decisively to free the abducted victims.

The kidnapping of schoolchildren and their teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State has drawn national attention. Many citizens and advocacy groups are calling for stronger rescue efforts and better security measures to stop such incidents from happening again.
