Governor Dapo Abiodun has praised Charles Akindiji Akinola, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the South West Development Commission (SWDC). He called Akinola an accomplished public servant and a visionary leader whose work has earned him respect across Nigeria.
In a message celebrating Dr Akinola's 70th birthday, Governor Abiodun said the day marks a life devoted to service and leadership. He described Akinola’s achievements as a celebration of dedication to community and institutional growth.
The governor highlighted that Dr Akinola's career spans over thirty years in government, international development, and the private sector. He pointed out Akinola's commitment to excellence and innovation in improving lives.
Abiodun noted that Akinola’s leadership at the South West Development Commission has set a strong foundation for regional growth, economic change, and sustainable development in the South-West.
He mentioned Dr Akinola’s impressive public service record. This includes his roles as Chief of Staff to the Governor of Osun State, Chairman of the Technical Committee for the South-West Governors’ Forum on the SWDC Bill, Director-General of the Office of Economic Development and Partnerships, and founder of Enterprise for Development International (EfDI). Akinola was also the National Coordinator of the Sustainable Tree Crops Programme (STCP) and Nigeria Country Director of TechnoServe Inc.
Governor Abiodun stated that Dr Akinola has used his experience and global insights to push for public sector reforms, strengthen institutions, and promote economic growth. He is recognized as one of Nigeria’s leading development experts.
“I sincerely congratulate the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the South West Development Commission, Dr Charles Akindiji Akinola, on his 70th birthday. This important milestone is a time to thank God for a life of impact and service,” the governor said.
“Dr Akinola has shown himself to be an exceptional administrator and public policy strategist. His work has positively influenced governance, economic growth, and reforms in Nigeria and beyond.
“I am especially pleased with the vision he has brought to the South West Development Commission as its first Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. Under his guidance, the Commission is well set to promote regional integration and create economic opportunities for sustainable growth in the South-West.
“It is also wonderful that he continues to apply his rich experience from his various roles, including his time as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Marine and Blue Economy. His contributions to development projects in the Niger Delta are invaluable.
