Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has said that Nigerians need to learn how to live peacefully together. He urged everyone to support one another and recognize their shared identity, no matter their ethnic or religious backgrounds.

Lawal made these remarks when he welcomed the Igbo Community Association in Zamfara State at the Government House in Gusau on Tuesday.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to peaceful living, fair treatment, and cooperation among people from different ethnic and religious groups in the state. He emphasized that unity is key for national growth and harmony.

During the visit, the association promised to vote in large numbers to help the governor stay in office. They want him to continue the projects he has started across the state.

The Igbo community was led by their President-General, Mr. Maduka Ezemeka. He promised to mobilize the Igbo people in the state to support Governor Lawal in the upcoming governorship election next year.

In his speech, the governor reflected on his long relationship with the Igbo community, which goes back to his childhood. He recalled how he interacted with Igbo traders and artisans living and working in his hometown of Gusau.

He stated that these relationships show that Nigerians can thrive together when they show respect, understanding, and cooperation.

Lawal thanked the community for their visit and their kind words about his leadership. He described the Igbo people as brothers and partners in developing Zamfara.

Ezemeka asked the government to provide financial help in the form of loans to support their businesses during these tough economic times. He also requested a functional bus for the association's activities, noting that previous vehicles given by earlier administrations are no longer usable.

Governor Lawal promised to provide a bus for the community's activities. He also said he would look into issues affecting community members who lost their teaching jobs in the state.

Regarding the request for business support, Lawal encouraged the association’s leaders to submit a formal proposal that outlines what assistance they need.

He said he would review the proposal with his team to see how the government could help their businesses. This could include possible partnerships with banks and other relevant support.

Mr. Lawal pointed out that having proper documents for land could help business owners use their properties as collateral for loans. He explained that his administration has started property recertification to help owners get their documents in order and improve their chances of getting financial assistance.

On the concerns about the disengagement of some Igbo community members who worked as teachers, Lawal expressed surprise. He mentioned he had already asked the former Commissioner for Education to sort this out.

He instructed the Secretary to the State Government, Abubakar Nakwada, to revisit this issue with the Commissioner for Education and the representatives of the affected teachers. He told them to investigate the facts, take necessary actions, and report back on how to resolve the matter.
