Governor Dauda Lawal has appointed Ibrahim Sani as his Special Assistant for sign language interpretation.

The Secretary to the Zamfara State Government, Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada, announced this decision. He said it shows the government's commitment to making sure everyone is included in governance.

This appointment aims to close communication gaps. It will help improve interaction between the government and people with hearing impairments in all government activities.

This move also supports the State’s Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities Prohibition Law.

Ibrahim Sani is a certified sign language interpreter. He is also a trained special education teacher with more than ten years of experience in teaching and advocating for disability inclusion.

From 2015 to 2023, he worked at the School for Special Education in Gusau. There, he was the Vice Principal Academics.

Mr. Sani has a BSc in Education, focusing on Special Education and Rehabilitation Science from the University of Jos. He also holds an NCE in Special Education and English from the Federal College of Education (Special) in Oyo.

He was the Chairman of the Association of Sign Language Interpreters of Nigeria (ASLIN) in Zamfara State from 2018 to 2025. Currently, he is the Northwest Zonal Coordinator of ASLIN.

Mr. Nakwada mentioned that Governor Lawal hopes Mr. Sani will use his experience to promote inclusivity. The goal is to ensure that people with hearing impairments can easily access information about government programs.
