Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has inaugurated the new Enugu State Civil Service Commission and the Governing Councils for the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu State Polytechnic, Iwollo, and the Enugu State College of Education Technical (ESCET).

Mbah also swore in the newly reconstituted Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Board.

At a brief event at Government House, Enugu, the Governor, represented by the Secretary to the Government, Prof Chidiebere Onyia, said changing the leadership of the various councils and boards is part of his plan to build strong institutions.

He said the new leaders are vital in achieving his goal to grow the state’s economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion. He emphasized that this cannot happen without a strong civil service and skilled workers ready for a modern economy.

“Again, during the campaign for this office, we promised Ndi Enugu that it would no longer be business as usual. We promised to run the state like an enterprise to maximize efficiency and results.

“So, you must note that our key principles, transparency, traceability, and accountability, are not just slogans. They reflect in our daily actions and decisions. So, you must uphold them,” he added.

He urged the new leaders to work based on evidence, fairness, and teamwork. “You must be empirical. We also expect you to maintain fairness and merit.

“Again, our administration is based on new ideas. But you cannot change a system without thinking and doing things differently. Look at current processes and find new ways to improve efficiency and results.

“Importantly, you must work as a team. In our administration, we do not compete; we support each other to bring out the best in every member and sector. Working alone can harm the whole system.

“Working in isolation can lead to corruption and duplication,” he stressed.

For the Enugu State Civil Service Commission, Prof Gabriel Ajah was sworn in as Chairman, while Ambrose Nwodo was made Secretary. Other members include Christian Mbah, Mrs Stella Ekweremadu, Mrs Theresa Onyefuzili Ifeanyichukwu, and Uzonna Emmanuel Ogarabe.

The ESUT Governing Council now has Victor Chukwuani as Chairman, with James Ifeanyichukwu Ajibo, Dr Eric Oluedo, Dr Gladys Ngozi Okoro, and Mr Chukwu Chikaodiri Joy Chukwu as Members.

Chinedu Onu was appointed Chairman of the IMT Governing Council, with Dr Barth Nwankwo, Emeka Ede, Mrs Rita Chimaobi, and Prince Tony Nwonye as Members.

TVET Board Chairman-designate, Dr Amaka Ngene, and Board Members Bonaventure Onu, Nnadi Eluke, Kingsley Agwu, and Mrs Joy Odike were also sworn in.

The new leadership for the Enugu State Polytechnic, Iwollo, was also inaugurated. They include Rev Prof Anthony Aniagboso Igwe (Rector), Deaconess Ifeoma Nwobodo (Chairman of Governing Council), and Members Obinna Aleke, Henry Okeke, and Emeka Abba.

For ESCET, Enugu, Nwabueze Ugwu was made Chairman, while Prince Cletus Ajaegbu, Dr Chiesonu Isiga Eruchalu, Dr Chukwuemeka Nwatu, and Theophilus Onyebeke were made members.

Accepting his new role, Professor Ajah, a seasoned bureaucrat, thanked Governor Mbah on behalf of his team for the trust placed in him.

He introduced the “P.R.E.S.E.N.T” philosophy, which stands for Professionalism, Responsibility, Excellence, Service to all, Exemplary conduct, Neutrality, and Team spirit. This will guide his Commission.

Onuh promised to collaborate with the school management to uplift the IMT. The ESUT Governing Council Chairman, Chukwuani, assured they will work with the university management to drive growth. He stressed they would stick to Mbah’s Experiential Learning model.

Speaking with journalists, Mrs Nwobodo, the Chairman of Enugu State Polytechnic, Iwollo, recalled that the institution was ranked 29th nationally when she was first appointed. Thanks to Mbah’s investment in education, it now ranks 2nd among state polytechnics and 4th among all polytechnics.

Vice-Chancellor of ESUT, Prof Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, and TVET Board Chairman, Dr Ngene, praised Mbah for investing in education. They said he has given their institutions the support to reach new heights.

Chairman of ESCET Board, Ugwu, stressed their commitment to enhance productivity and efficiency.
