Governor Caleb Mutfwang has changed Plateau State's security setup.

On Tuesday, the Secretary to the Government of the State, Samuel Jatau, said this change aims to improve safety for people, property, and schools in the state.

The statement named Nash Yakubu, a retired brigadier-general, as the Coordinator of Operation Rainbow, the state’s local security group.

Mr Yakubu retired after 35 years with the Nigerian Army. He has been involved in many important operations, including handling the MASSOB and IPOB crises, counter-insurgency work in the North-east, and peacekeeping in Sierra Leone and Sudan.

Gakji Goshwe, also a retired brigadier-general, has been moved to lead the Safe School Programme.

Before this role, Mr Goshwe was Acting Coordinator of Operation Rainbow and Special Adviser to the Governor on Security.

Bala Isandu, a retired major-general, is now the Special Adviser on Security to the Governor.

Before this, Mr Isandu was Senior Special Assistant on Intelligence to the Minister of Defence and worked as a Director at the Defence Intelligence Agency. He has a lot of experience in security operations both at home and abroad.

The statement says these appointments are part of the governor’s plan to strengthen security in the state, protect lives and property, and make sure educational institutions are safe.

Governor Mutfwang congratulated the new appointees. He expressed his trust in their “wealth of experience, professionalism and dedication to service.” He asked them to use their skills to help achieve the administration’s goal of a peaceful, safe, and prosperous Plateau State.

This change comes as the state government focuses on community security and protecting schools from new threats.

With Operation Rainbow under new leadership and the Safe School Programme having a dedicated coordinator, the state seems to be focusing more on both overall security and the safety of schools.
