In his speech during the last Sallah traditional homage, the governor of Kano State claimed he has fulfilled all his promises to the people. He mentioned that he has been working hard to solve the many problems facing Kano State in the three years of his leadership.

This isn’t the first time the Kano governor has said this. People need to know that the focus of the Kano APC government has mainly been on developing the city of Kano, not the rural areas.

Visitors to the city center can see many new roads being built, especially in areas like Nassarawa GRA and nearby local governments. But if you look at the rural areas, the situation is disappointing. They are clearly neglected.

The well-being of rural dwellers seems unimportant to this administration. The negative conditions show the struggles of rural people, who are the ones whose votes helped the AKY administration come to power. This raises questions about whether AKY should get a second term and whether he is getting good advice on the state’s needs.

Some may point to the ongoing five kilometers of road construction. But these projects mostly serve the local government headquarters, leaving the real rural communities without support.

Sadly, promises made to the people, such as building feeder roads to connect farming areas to village markets for delivering produce to the city, have not been met.

Basic services like water supply are still hard to find, and rural healthcare is almost non-existent, relying on community efforts. Thankfully, as the election approaches, we will see how the governor and his team will address the rural roads they have ignored while seeking our votes again. We will listen to what they have to say to the people.
