Grange School and St Saviour’s School proved they are the best by keeping their titles at the Dolphin Swimming League Season 7 Awards on Saturday.
St Saviour’s School in Ikoyi scored 954.5 points to win the Best Primary School title. Grange School led the secondary school category with 1,074 points. Boken Club was named the Best Club for both primary and secondary levels.
Naetochukwu Oguegbu from Meadow Hall School and the Grange School duo Aidan Dumuje-Abili and Oluwatofunmi Ibidapo stood out. They took home major awards in Nigeria’s top school swimming competition.
Oguegbu shone brightly, winning 15 gold medals. He earned recognition as one of the top performers, just like Aidan Dumuje-Abili from Grange, who often takes home the MVP award. Oguegbu's success shows that a new wave of talent is rising in Nigeria’s youth swimming scene.
The awards ceremony in Lagos was well-attended. Former President of the Nigeria Aquatics Federation, Babatunde Fatayi-Williams, praised the Dolphin Swimming League, calling it “the best to have emerged from Nigeria.”
For the second year in a row, Ibidapo from Grange School was named Best Female Swimmer. She won 14 gold medals and one silver medal.
Reflecting on her win, she said, “After winning last year, I knew I had to redouble my efforts to retain the title. With the support of my parents, I was able to achieve that. Next season, I hope to make it three in a row through even greater dedication and hard work.”
League Technical Director Samuel Jesimiel talked about the competition’s role in developing swimmers. He said it is already making swimmers ready to represent Nigeria in the future.
He also praised parents and guardians for their constant support. Their encouragement helps the technical team to improve things every year.
Dynaspro Sports Promotion organizes the Dolphin Swimming League each year with help from Advanta Interactive Limited. The Lagos State Aquatic Association provides technical support. The league is sanctioned by the Nigeria Aquatics Federation, the Nigeria Olympic Committee, and the Nigeria School Sport Federation.
