Zenith Bank Swimming Competition Kicks Off Today

The ninth edition of the Zenith Bank Inter-School Swimming Gala takes place today at the Ikoyi Club 1938. About 20 schools are set to compete in this popular grassroots swimming competition in Nigeria.

Young swimmers will compete in Freestyle, Breaststroke, Backstroke, Butterfly, and Individual Medley events. There will be races for both primary and secondary school students across different age categories. The event has grown each year since it started and it helps to spot and nurture the next generation of swimming talent in Nigeria.

Akinbulejo Onabolu, the Chairman of the Swimming Section of Ikoyi Club 1938, said the competition gives young athletes more than just a chance to race.

"It has always been a joy for us to welcome young swimmers to Ikoyi Club and watch them grow in a competitive but supportive environment. Beyond the competition itself, we value the friendships, discipline, confidence, and exposure that these young athletes gain through events like this. These experiences contribute significantly to their personal growth and development," he said.

Onabolu also thanked Zenith Bank for their continued support for the event. He called the partnership important for keeping a platform that offers young athletes real opportunities.
