Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc (GTCO) on Thursday launched an online directory for textile producers, local artisans, and fashion manufacturers.

This new initiative was shared at a media briefing in Lagos ahead of the ninth GTCO Fashion Weekend, set for Saturday and Sunday at the GTCentre, Plot 1, Water Corporation Drive, Oniru.

At the briefing, GTCO’s Group Head of Corporate Communications, Oyinade Adegite, said this directory is part of the GTCO Fashion Collective. This platform aims to keep fashion professionals connected even after the company’s annual two-day event.

She explained that the collective will include designers, models, stylists, photographers, editors, buyers, content creators, and other industry professionals.

Textile and manufacturing directory

The platform has separate directories for textile makers and manufacturers. It includes details about their locations, specialties, and contact information.

The textile section lists fabric suppliers, printmakers, and producers. It features artisans involved in Aso-oke weaving, Adire dyeing, and other local textile-making processes.

Its manufacturing catalogue highlights Nigerian businesses in various areas of fashion production. Ms Adegite mentioned that the directory was made to give more visibility to producers whose work often goes unnoticed compared to designers and fashion brands.

“These makers are the foundation on which African fashion stands, and they deserve a permanent, searchable home in our ecosystem,” she said.

Fashion manufacturers who want to be listed can submit their business information for review. GTCO noted that the directory is only for discovery and listing. They do not endorse or guarantee the manufacturers listed. Users are advised to do their own checks before making business agreements.

The platform also provides guidance on questions designers may want to ask potential manufacturers. This includes minimum order quantities, production timelines, available materials, sampling procedures, pricing, and payment terms.

Fashion Weekend begins Saturday

The ninth GTCO Fashion Weekend will take place from Saturday to Sunday. The event, themed “Fashion Is Timeless,” will run from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on both days, and entry is free for the public.

Organisers say the programme will feature runway shows, masterclasses, retail stalls, a craft and fabric market, industry discussions, and a streetwear hub.

Designers presenting collections on Saturday include Tongoro, FIA Factory, Ibrahim Fernandez, Washington Roberts, Maison Sara Chraibi, and Imane Ayissi.

On Sunday, the runway will showcase Sukeina, House of Marvee, Selam Fessahaye, Kim Shui, Ohlanna by Zikora, and LaQuan Smith.

Fashion and beauty experts leading masterclasses include Sherlina Nym, Rachel Ojuromi, and Renee Morris, who is the founder of natural hair brand Uncle Funky’s Daughter. There will also be a skincare session by Buttah Skin.

GTCO mentioned that around 140 fashion retailers will take part over the weekend. The addition of a craft and fabric market will provide textile makers and artisans a space to showcase their products alongside the runway shows and retail activities.

The Fashion Collective will remain available online after the event, offering industry listings, professional profiles, and information about future programmes.
