At least two vigilantes were killed and three others injured when suspected gunmen attacked their post at Mangor in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, residents said.

The attack happened around 11 p.m. at Angwan Tsarki, a community in Mangor, while the vigilantes were on duty.

A local resident, Bitrus Simon, shared with journalists that the attackers fired at the vigilantes, killing two and injuring three more.

Mr Simon urged the government to improve security measures to protect the people living in the area.

This attack took place as the Plateau State Police Command announced it was investigating another shooting along the Bukuru Expressway in Jos South Local Government Area.

In a statement on Monday, the command’s spokesperson, Alfred Alabo, explained that this incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday when a vehicle carrying traders returning from Kara Market, Bukuru, was targeted.

Mr Alabo, a superintendent of police, said seven injured victims have been taken to the Military Clinic at Rukuba Barracks, Jos, for medical treatment.

He added that the Commissioner of Police, Ayodeji Faniyan, has instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of investigations to lead the case and make sure those responsible are arrested and prosecuted.

“The Command strongly condemns this wicked act and wishes the injured victims a quick recovery,” the statement said.

The police have sent tactical and anti-robbery teams to boost security in the area, while efforts to gather intelligence have increased to catch those behind the attack.

The command encouraged residents to continue with their daily activities and report any suspicious movements to security agencies.

As of now, the police have not confirmed the Mangor attack. Attempts to contact security officials for confirmation were unsuccessful.
