Gunmen kill two and steal livestock in Sokoto village

Bandits attacked Dukura community in Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State. Two people were killed, and livestock and motorcycles were stolen from residents.

The attack happened on Monday morning. The bandits blocked the road that connects the affected communities to Tambuwal market.

They took away cows, camels, sheep, and motorcycles from some commercial motorcycle operators before security personnel arrived.

The attack increased tension in Dukura, Dalijan, and other communities in Girkau Ward. This includes Zugu, Indire, Mazoji, Tungar Kabawa, Runtuwa, Jabga, and Sabon Garin Zugu.

Sokoto State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmed Rufai, confirmed the incident. He said the police got information about the attack and quickly moved to the area.

Rufai mentioned that the police engaged the bandits in a gun battle, which forced them to pull back. But he noted that the attackers had already killed two people before the police arrived.

“Immediately we got the information, our men moved to the area and engaged the bandits in gunshots, forcing them to retreat. Unfortunately, before the arrival of the police, the bandits had already killed two people and made away with some animals,” he said.

The police spokesman said they are working to gather more details about the incident. They are also focused on strengthening security in the affected communities.
