Norwegian striker Erling Haaland said Manchester City must “stick together” during these tough times after facing over 100 charges for breaking Premier League financial rules.

City could face a heavy points penalty or even be kicked out of the Premier League after an independent commission found they used “sham” commercial contracts to boost revenue and reduce costs by over £900 million ($1.2 billion) from 2009 to 2018.

Haaland joined City in 2022, but it is the current players who might deal with the consequences of any punishment.

Premier League leaders City will play their first match since the guilty verdict was announced against Liverpool on Sunday.

“We have to stay positive, look ahead and try to win football games and try to enjoy the situation and win the game,” Haaland told the club’s website.

“We have to stick together, and we have to spread the love to each other.

“So yeah, stick together, enjoy the ride and smile.”

Haaland signed a contract until 2034 last year, but his future might depend on how serious any punishment is.

The Norwegian has scored 169 goals in 205 games for the club and has also stood out in leading his country to the World Cup quarter-finals.

Top teams in Europe would want the 26-year-old if City faces being dropped from the Premier League or if they go without Champions League football for a long time.

“I care a lot about City, I have to say,” Haaland added.

“I care a lot about the fans because I’m a fan myself, I feel with them as well.”
