Manchester United is in deep trouble in the Premier League. They are stuck in the relegation zone despite a thrilling 4-4 draw against Aston Villa.

Arsenal has not been at their best, but a 1-0 win against Hull has stretched their lead at the top to five points over surprising rivals Brighton. Meanwhile, Manchester City suffered a shocking loss to Nottingham Forest.

Liverpool moved up to fourth place with a 3-1 win over Crystal Palace. This result might be the end of Pierre Sage's short time as manager of the Eagles.

Carrick's Time is Ticking

An exciting day at Old Trafford did not help Michael Carrick’s future as manager of United. The Red Devils fought back twice from two goals down against Villa, just like they did to beat Roma 3-2 in the Champions League on Tuesday.

But an eight-game spell without a Premier League win has pushed the 20-time English champions into the relegation zone for the first time in 40 years at this stage of the season. Carrick has been given a chance to turn things around before the upcoming international break.

The former United player believes he will still be in charge when his team travels to face Liverpool in two weeks. Now, it’s up to the club to decide his fate, with former Newcastle boss Eddie Howe and ex-Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann among those being considered to take over if Carrick is fired.

City's Hard Reality

Manchester City’s third straight Premier League loss has dealt another blow to their title hopes. It raises questions if they were even in the title race at all.

Enzo Maresca started well as he took over from Pep Guardiola. He became the first coach to win his first seven Premier League games with a new club. Two of those wins came after City faced over 100 charges for breaking financial rules.

But the uncertainty around City has affected their performances on the field. Maresca expressed frustration at his team's inability to match Nottingham Forest's energy at the City Ground.

Keeping his players motivated to chase Arsenal at the top of the table is a big challenge for the City manager. Even positive results might not matter much. If City does not win their appeal against the initial ruling, they could face a heavy points deduction that might even lead to relegation from the English top-flight.
