Manchester United pulled off a stunning 4-4 draw against Aston Villa. Two goals in stoppage time gave Michael Carrick a glimmer of hope to save his job. Meanwhile, Chelsea faced a surprising 1-0 defeat at Sunderland on Sunday.

Carrick was just moments away from going into the international break after another heavy loss that would likely have led to his firing. But his team managed to score twice in six minutes of added time. Joshua Zirkzee and Patrick Dorgu were the heroes who kept their manager's future uncertain.

United is currently in the relegation zone and has not won any of their last eight Premier League matches. It is unclear if Carrick will keep his job after this. Last weekend, United’s management decided to keep him in charge despite the loss to Chelsea.

This match marked a change for United, who had just snapped a nine-match winless streak in all competitions. They came back from two goals down to beat Roma 3-2 in the Champions League last Tuesday. Despite this, United faced more trouble against Villa, falling 2-0 down in just the first four minutes at Old Trafford.

Alysson opened the scoring in the first minute with a shot that slipped under United's goalkeeper Senne Lammens. Just three minutes later, Nicolas Jackson scored the second goal after Lammens made a weak save that fell right to him.

Bruno Fernandes pulled one back for United with a penalty in the 16th minute after Boubacar Kamara fouled Matheus Cunha. Before the first half ended, former Villa player Youri Tielemans equalized for United in the 44th minute.

In the second half, Villa's John McGinn scored from the penalty spot in the 48th minute after Diogo Dalot fouled Alysson. Leon Goretzka then added Villa's fourth goal from close range in the 53rd minute after United’s Leny Yoro hit his own crossbar with a header.

But just when it seemed all hope was lost for United, Zirkzee scored in stoppage time. Dorgu then headed in the dramatic equalizer in the final seconds after Villa's keeper Zion Suzuki failed to punch the ball away properly.

Carrick walked down the tunnel looking confused about his team's future. United's next match is against Liverpool on November 22.
