Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar has urged her colleagues in the film industry to embrace love and unity. She believes that the lack of these values made her challenges worse during her 13-year health and personal struggle.
Speaking at a Holy Ghost revival event in Lagos on Saturday, the actress criticized what she called greed and distrust among people in the Nigerian film industry.
"They lack love, empathy, compassion. They lack trust. So many of them are so greedy. So many of them are not really what they seem to be," she said.
Abubakar said she chose to share her experiences so that Nigerians and the world could see how much she has suffered.
"I allow this so that Nigerians can see where I’m coming from. And the world will watch and see how much I’ve suffered," she said.
She described her return to public life after 13 years as "a miracle" and "a second chance." The actress said her recovery came through her faith in God.
Abubakar mentioned that she now relies on God to guide her life and believes He restored her after a long time of hardship.
She also claimed that some people tried to ruin her reputation and career. She said some even celebrated false news about her death.
Abubakar called for change in Nollywood. She urged actors and filmmakers to support each other during tough times instead of leaving colleagues who are struggling.
"We need love. You need to love yourselves in Nollywood. One person’s pain is everybody’s pain. But in my industry, your pain is your pain," she said.
Apostle Queen Belemzy also spoke at the event. She shared how she became concerned about Abubakar after seeing videos of her health online.
The cleric said Abubakar initially turned down her offer for prayers due to a bad experience with another religious leader. But later, Abubakar reached out after believing that God directed her to seek prayers from Belemzy.
According to Belemzy, their first prayer session, which they held online, was the start of Abubakar’s recovery.
The apostle said Abubakar began sleeping better, felt relief from various symptoms, and slowly regained her health. She also mentioned having a dream that showed her the spiritual source of Abubakar’s struggles and provided financial support during this time.
Belemzy described Abubakar as a new Christian. Abubakar is now preaching and will join Belemzy on an international tour to share her story and encourage others to seek God.
Abubakar’s health issues began in 2017 after she had fibroid surgery in India. This led to long-term complications like heavy bleeding and extreme weakness.
Over the years, she fought against a brain tumor, heart problems, high blood pressure, spleen issues, insomnia, anxiety, and continued bleeding.
The long illness kept her away from acting for years and caused serious financial problems, leading her to ask the public for medical help.
Earlier in 2026, the actress shared that she needed about ₦25 million for brain tumor and spleen surgeries, post-operative care, accommodation, and other medical costs.
She has also said that some Nollywood colleagues abandoned her during her health crisis. At one point, the Actors Guild of Nigeria suspended her over disputes, but this was later lifted due to her health.
In 2026, Abubakar announced that she had healed, crediting her recovery to divine help through Apostle Queen Belemzy’s ministry after she converted from Islam to Christianity.
