How the NDC Gets Its Money

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has said that it is funding its activities for the 2027 general elections through donations, levies, and contributions from members, supporters, and well-wishers.

The party made this known in a statement from its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, on Tuesday. He explained the funding and candidate selection processes.

Mr Director noted that as a new political party without elected officials, NDC had to find ways to raise money for its operations and election-related activities.

He mentioned that the party’s constitution allows for contributions from aspirants, members, stakeholders, and the public to support its activities.

According to him, all contributions and levies go directly into the party's designated account and are managed by the right party officials.

He stressed that the NDC National Leader, Seriake Dickson, did not ask for or receive money from any aspirant for personal use.

"All funds were duly received, receipted, and accounted for in line with global best practices," he stated.

The publicity secretary promised that the party would provide a full account of its finances as required by the Electoral Act and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) rules.

He explained that funding is key to election planning, especially for an opposition party that wants to field candidates nationwide just months before the elections.

Mr Director added that the party's choice to ask for donations and levies from members aims to support its operations and national outreach.

He pointed out that the party does not get money from government funds but relies on contributions from members, stakeholders, and supporters.

The NDC spokesperson also mentioned that the presidential and vice-presidential candidates are offered their positions without any charge. The same goes for many other political roles and candidates.

He assured that the party leadership is committed to transparency, fairness, and justice in its operations.

Mr Director encouraged the public and the media to only trust verified information about the party’s activities and finances.

He said that NDC will stay focused on preparing for the 2027 general elections and aims to build a strong political movement.
