Super Eagles star Kelechi Iheanacho shared his excitement on social media after making history in Turkey. He posted a photo of himself in traditional Turkish clothing with a new nickname, "Agabey".
Iheanacho shared the picture on Instagram after scoring two goals and providing an assist in Bursaspor's 3-0 win against Muglaspor in the Turkish 1. Lig on Thursday. His caption read, "We go ball till eternity, Kelechi Agabey."
The name "Agabey" is a respectful Turkish term that means "Big Brother" or "Boss".
At 30 years old, Iheanacho has now scored in 10 straight league matches. He is the first player to achieve this in Turkish professional league football. He has found the net in all 10 games he has played for Bursaspor. Including his matches for the Super Eagles, he has scored in 11 consecutive games. He has 14 goals and three assists since moving from Celtic.
In the match, the former Manchester City and Leicester City striker thought he scored in the 51st minute. However, the goal was disallowed for offside after a VAR review. He got it right seven minutes later, making it 1-0. He scored again in the 79th minute and then assisted substitute Hüseyin Maldar for the third goal just four minutes later.
This victory lifts Bursaspor to second place in the Turkish 1. Lig with 22 points. They are two points ahead of third-placed Iğdır FK and three points behind leaders Kayserispor. Bursaspor will host Pendikspor on Monday.
